Apart from its amazing soundtracks, mostly done by Tyler Bates, "Super" turned out to be a fun movie to watch, that is, if you're into eccentric and AWKWARD action-quasi-comedy flicks.

The story revolves around a loser but a good guy turned masked vigilante after being convinced that it was what God wanted him to do. Divine intervention as you may call it, spurred him to fight crime. But ultimately, what drove him to this drastic shift in persona was his desire to save his wife who apparently left him for some mob boss. As the story develops, his lone ambition had attracted the attention of Libby who became his hyped up sidekick. Together they seek and acted upon injustice with a handful of hand-made weapons and guns at their disposal. As they managed to survive a few brushes with death in their fight against crime, their final mission was to infiltrate the mob boss' residence, wipe out the bad guys, and rescue his loved one. Sadly, it's not all glory for our protagonist in this film which I won't dive into detail here. And again, I'd like to stress how awesome the soundtrack is! Tyler Bates rules! rock! whatever!

There is talks about a revamp on our existing Malaysian Education System in which a study (on what I don't know) will be completed by this year's end. You can read more about the announcement here. A total shift in direction on our education system reflects that it is flawed in so many ways, but no reports on the shortcomings has been shown. Though there have been many issues brought up in the media such as our nation's brain drain scenario, rise of unemployment and so on which all implies something troubling within the system.

This blog made a valid argument about the minister's novel decision and asked all the right questions which should be informed to the public so that we understand the gravity of the plight of our nation's people. We need to know how far lacking as far as our education is concerned compared to other neighboring countries as well as further abroad.

I just came home from watching Inception with my wife. A 2hrs 20mins movie about the exploitation and manipulation of someone's dream to extract or plant information. Inception is mostly about the latter.

When 'themovieblog.com' gave a 10 out of 10 review on Inception, I grew very excited. However, it did warn about the movie possessing a profound storyline and can be difficult to comprehend. After having seen the film, I wouldn't say that it scores a perfect 10. In fact, it scored a 6 out of 10 for me. Perhaps, movie critics who love the idea of a critical, complex and thought provoking film would gladly give the highest rating. Trying to make sense of those dream states and who dreams what, distracts you from enjoying the film. Although the visual effects were stunning, it didn't entertain me as much.

It is a heavy film to digest; not for laymen moviegoers like myself. But as a science fiction genre, I believe the film is absolutely genius. The way dreams are represented are astounding and breathtaking. It provides utmost satisfaction to patrons who possess a more welcoming capacity to absorb complex information, a.k.a smart people.

In a nutshell, Inception was not as I had expected. It is a visually compelling film, action packed and filled with 'deep' words.

3D Cinema at Suria Sabah

GSC Suria Sabah has the first 3D Cinema in Kota Kinabalu and Sabah which opened this month of May. The fee comes to RM15 which is more than double normal ticket rates but the additional cost is all in favour to entertain you more with an immersive visual experience.

The third instalment of Shrek is the first movie I've watched on 3D technology. The introduction of 3D cinema whets my appetite for more. The visual experience is absolutely awe inspiring. You literally see things come off the screen and appear inches away from where you're seated. Yeah! It's that real. Awesome stuff.

The 3D glasses you'll be handed at the entrace comes in black and probably made of carbon fibre material I think. The glasses itself is not very cheap coz if you accidentally break one you'd best have RM200 to replace them.

As newcomers to this form of technology in entertainment, we've been given previews of upcoming movies that has embraced 3D, namely Toy Story 3, Despicable me (animation) and another Resident Evil movie. The realism of live action film incorporating 3D is indeed captivating and I'll be looking forward to watching such movies in this format.

I believe this to be a very good bargain for a second hand camera from mudah.my. Physically, it looks almost brand new. The retail price for a new one costs around RM1,800++ as seen in Canon Malaysia website. At mudah.my, it cost just RM800 and even negotiable to an extent. However, this is presumed specifically for those living in Kota Kinabalu/Penampang area, unless one is willing to travel the distance for a first hand look.

The Canon Powershot SX10IS doesn't fit well into one's pockets but it is not bulky either like DSLRs. It's still light weight and convenient to bring around. This 10 Megapixel camera is powered by 4 AA batteries.

The strong points about this camera is its 20x optical zoom and bigger lens which is likely to produce detailed photos with better control of depth-of-field compared to the more compact digital camera lineups. And it has a flash hot shoe built-in for those who prefer using external flash as an alternative. Also, a cool feature about this camera is its adjustable viewfinder which can be swiveled 180 degrees to the left and vertically rotated as well. This gives the ability take those difficult low or high angle shots while still being able to preview through the viewfinder and composing the photo before commiting to pressing the shutter button.

With that said, for me, it's a very good buy. I too am tempted but I don't think that I have the need for another camera now.

Great story telling and tasteful soundtrack. Where the Wild Things Are is a film that explores the vivid imagination of a young boy named Max. Max immersed into his own realm following an argument he had with his mom, and set sail towards the open sea to an enchanted island where the wild things lived. These eccentric creatures could speak and each have their own unique personalities but all desired the same thing, which is happiness. Max's ascension as king was thought by all to augur good things, to not allow lonliness to descend on them and to right things which are wrong. But the very nature of the creatures made it impossible for the King to please everyone. The story perspired into a series of happy and bitter moments, and the culmination of Max seeking his way home and leaving the place where the wild things are.

A very entertaining tale capturing the various musings of a child and it wouldn't be glorious without the beautiful soundtracks. A highly recommended movie to watch.

Many would probably not have heard of the brand eMachines in computing or perhaps notice it but would opt for brands already synonymous with the likes of Desktop PCs and laptops. My first PC came with an eMachines monitor and that was 9 years back. It's that monitor that is being used to substitute a broken down Samsung Monitor.

Two days back, I spotted an eMachines desktop PC set with a price tag of RM1,239. In my opinion, the package that came with that price is indeed most attractive. It embodies a minimalist and sleek design and comes in a white finish. I was most drawn to the 20" flat screen monitor and the specifications were nothing short of satisfying for a budget PC. I recalled the 2.4GHz Athlon processor, 320GB hard disk, 1GB DDR2, Nvidia graphic card which my friend claims to have no problem executing high end 3D games.

I would love to have one but with other more important priorities I'd have to hold back this desire. And for anyone looking for a low cost desktop PC that has looks and performance built into one, this is most definitely worth considering. Seriously man. Oh ... for a preview of this hardware you can head to the computer shop that's just in front of Eaton's bookstore at the 3rd Floor of Centre Point.

Thinking of a Robot

My friend and I, we have been discussing about the use of a robot for trading and this concluded with a purchase of one EA. Well, actually my friend bought it and I will follow suit soon.

He started will a small capital of usd29 and have since grown to usd42 in 3 days. Lot size is set at 1 cent per pip. I would consider this a huge growth in fund size with a sound risk management strategy. Maybe it's too soon to push a judgment but I am convinced that using this EA can work.

The robot has been programmed to scalp with a max of 10pips target point for every post ... at least that's what I've heard. The potential of having our post floating for days is also possible as my friend currently experience. I wonder whether this is the norm, since he hasn't been following exactly the recommendations set forth. The drawback to this system is that it does not have a automated stop loss.

Even so, I am keen on making the purchase and trying it for myself. If it helps pay the bills then I am grateful enough.

Saving with Compatible Inks

I have been using my Canon i865 since 2002 and it performs splendidly to date. It has separate ink cartridges for Black, Cyan, Yellow and Magenta which is something to be considered when you're looking to buy a new printer. The price of original ink cartridges for this model ranges between RM30-35. Even with the relatively reasonable price of the originals, I still prefer using compatible inks as it comes in half the price.

My economical choice is PrintRite manufactured inks which costs RM15. Today, I decided to experiment with another brand called Saber which is a cheaper alternative (RM9). I found that the outcome was alright when printing coloured text and graphics. Hence, Saber inks are a sure choice for future replacements.

This song had been included in 'The Aeroplane Flies High' Smashing Pumpkins compilation, which came in a lovely black-white box set. All songs compiled were extensions of the previous double-CD album, Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, and were very limited.

'The Boy' was composed by guitarist James Iha, whose musical direction contrasts to Billy Corgan's own (leader and main vocalist of the Smashing Pumpkins). But James being a Pumpkin band member after all, had his songs accepted.

I love the way the song is able to correctly interpret the visceral experience of joy and infatuation of a boy towards a girl. The Pumpkins' ability to connect our range of emotions through their music is uncanny and this is part of the reason why this band will always be my favourite.

In the early 90's, before the Pentium era, computer games came in floppy disks and running these games required some basic programming commands. Earlier gaming lacked the visual realism of today but it was engaging nonetheless.

My late dad owned an IBM computer back then and he had quite a collection of games stored in floppy boxes. Games that I had played on that computer were 'Elvira', 'Stealth Fighter F117A', 'Future Wars' and other titles which I have difficulty recalling.

I especially love games that involve a combo of riddles, puzzles and some armed combat whenever necessary. One such example of this category is 'Elvira'. I wasn't able to complete this game because I couldn't track the dead body that I had slayed and then fell into a moat. In retrospect, I realized what I did wrong and I know what needs to be done. Sadly, I lost possession of the game which I was so close to reaching the ending!! Sayang betul!

'Elvira' is a witch character whom you have to rescue. This role playing horror game takes place in a castle. Within the walls lie so many challenges. You will have to take on the guards, fight off undead creatures with spells and swords, learn archery, swim in a moat and risk drowning, explore chambers and secret catacombs, mix various potions to apply on the enemy, solve puzzles and lastly come face to face with the ultimate evil.

Sharing similar interesting gaming experiences was Future Wars and another sci-fi adventure game where you are a designate undercover agent with a mission to save the planet from annihilation. Humans, aliens and robots alike live together. Whilst carrying out duties, be very careful of what questions or statements you make. One wrong move can get you killed. I haven't been able to complete these missions either because of matters that cannot be avoided.

If I could recover these games, I will complete them to fulfill my long lost gaming quest.

At present, I do not play any PC games because I could not find one that fits my preference. Moreover, I have other obligations now which denies me the time for this sort of entertainment. In other words, I live quite a serious life right now. :)

First reported casualty of Parkour

Taking a leap from a height twice of your own can easily cause injury if you are not physically conditioned or when the landing method screwed up. As in the case of one parkour practitioner in KK, he suffered a broken foot after a failed attempt to jumping off a 3 metres high structure, and is now hospitalized for some time.

An X-ray image of his foot shows clearly the severity of the impact. He is lucky that he'll fully recover. I suspect that this incident will not deter him launching from higher grounds but it's definitely telling that his body is not yet capable of absorbing the stress. More conditioning is due and this is a lesson to other traceurs out there.

Always exercise caution in your training and know your limits.

Drawing Trendlines

Trendlines help us determine a prevailing trend. Since I trade short-term, I use H4 to determine the main trend and sub-trends. My entry will be in the 15min time frame.

Today I will draw trendlines for H4 for GU. The purpose of this is to determine a profitable entry point when I use the FxHunters system.

I open the H4 chart and generally look at the trend. Is it going up or down? I spot 2 low points.

I draw a trendline joining these 2 points. I spot a third low point.

Then I draw another trendline. I spot 2 high points. While the main trend is still up, there can also be a downtrend within it. That's why you have a term called 'A trend within a trend'.

So I draw the down trendline. If the candlestick breaks the blue line and opens under it, downtrend may continue.

It looks like the candlestick has broken the trendline.

When looking at a lower time frame, Min30, you can clearly see it has broken the trend. It signals a buy but this is merely an observation. Nothing is guaranteed.

Update:

The price dropped down significantly later on. This could be due to the NEWS. I'm not sure ...

I don't know why but it is almost natural to have a barbecue when it's approaching the new year. Just last night my mom decided to hold a mini bbq feast at home for us and some close relatives. The preparation went very well last night with the exception of the barbecued fish which was left too long above the burning embers.

This has been the second BBQ I had for December. The earlier one was catered last week at Kundasang where the size of the family is much larger and merrier. And something tells me that there will be another coming soon...

While thinking about music, I recalled a band named Massive Attack, from the UK, bringing on the Trip Hop genre to form. The album, Mezzanine, was released in 1998 and if my memory serves me right, I first heard it in 99 from my uncle's collection. His taste is eclectic with a bit of blues and jazz bias.

Trip hop music is self explanatory for it gives us the impression of a 'trippy' feel when we listen to them.

I was actually thinking of a particular music which I thought was composed by this band. It's in my head but I can't seem to pin point the originator. Movie Nite

My wife and I did a last minute plan to watch Twilight at Growball Cinemax and we got tickets for the 7.10pm screening. We didn't realize that it was movie night tonight, so we got a little bit happy paying RM5 for each ticket.

Minutes before Twilight was showing, we went to the basement to scan for updates on DVD content. Usually we go for 4in1's which is value for money, and we always pay at a discounted price since the staff know we are regulars. This time we took the 4in1 combo of James Bond, Max Payne, House Bunny and High School Musical 3. And do take note that the purchase was made only because it has Quantum of Solace in it, and not High School Musical 3. :)

When we entered Growball Cinemax Hall 8, the seats were half full. I don't know why that night was an unfortunate experience for my wife who had to endure a stinking smell coming from the guy seating on her left. And apparently he came to watch the movie solo. I am not surprised at all. :)

While I enjoyed watching the movie without distractions of any kind, my wife wasn't able to feel the same. I could see that she was uneasy throughout the entire 2 hours.
Well, what to do ...

Twilight was a fun watch although the pace of the movie was quite slow at the beginning and you only have 1 fight scene and that too didn't last long. To sum it up, it is a vampire/human love story with a different twist - less violence and more of your teenage crush type scenes. Overall, I give Twilight 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Free running, a.k.a parkour, is an extreme activity that is relatively new. It has made its first blockbuster film appearance in the James Bond - Casino Royale.

Practitioners are called traceurs and what they do is they basically traverse urban and natural landscapes by finding the shortest way to a certain path. For example, non-traceurs would descend a 2-storey building by going down the stairs. Whereas, free runners would just jump off from the building with no strings attached. There you have it ... travel time cut down to just 2 seconds ... :D. That is the concept of Parkour.

Part of Parkour's philosophy is that it can be useful in emergency situations. Such as escaping from a fiery building and things like that.

Jumping from high spots and landing gracefully is not the only factor that inspires most on-lookers. There are also the acrobatic elements, fluid manoevering in complex spaces and wall scaling capabilities that spark awe. The possibilities of creative expression through physical movement in intricate landscapes are limited only by our thoughts.

This activity is not only an unorthodox form of exercise but is also a creative form of expression to traceurs and brings them to a path of self realization or inner enlightenment. In other words, it affects the soul in a good way.

In Sabah, there are also a few practitioners of parkour and they recently debut their talents in Nexus, Karambunai Resort (13/10/08 to be exact). This small group of youths have had the opportunity to practice with foreigners as well. They currently host a forum (KK Parkour) dedicated to local parkour enthusiasts and individuals who want to know the latest happenings.

This is a commendable youth initiative to inculcate a positive vibe towards their generation. I wish them all the best and hope to meet them one day to experience their activity first hand. :)

Selective Memory Deletion

After a two decade research on selective memory erasure, there has been an interesting find which suggests the possibility that one day humans may be able to remove a specific memory that they don't want to remember, say for instance, traumatic experiences due to accidents or disasters.

Experiments have been carried out on mice which have been genetically modified to react to a chemical protein called alpha-CaM kinase II, which is known to play a role in learning and memory consolidation. These experiments look at the effects of the chemical on long-term and short-term memory, and apparently they have discovered methods to pin-point a specific memory to delete. However, the research is said to be still in its infancy stage and the likelihood of it being used in human therapy is still far fetched.

This is an intriguing discovery and if it can prove effective and harmless to humans it will certainly have substantive benefits in the medical field. And not surprisingly, with this kind of technology, it will also find itself being applied for malignant purposes.

Sometimes you may have to wait longer to profit. It is normal for a trend to REVERSE and resume the intended trend later. As in this example, while you enter a SELL the trend trace back upwards but will eventually go back down.

Also, to avoid unwanted disappointments, we should be careful when making an entry. To be safe, it's best to wait for a confirmed entry signal first. Wait for the candlestick to CLOSE. I downloaded a soft version of 'Hikayat Khairy' which was published in a book and circulated some years ago (2005) and deemed to be highly controversial material and that the author was subjected to sedition charges. I do not know what became of him/her and do not know who he is.

Whether ostensibly factual or false the contents of this book, this is an interesting read, in Bahasa Melayu, that makes us THINK, LOOK, OBSERVE ...

Getting Started in Forex

A lot of people may be aware of forex trading but many may also not know how to begin. Different individuals have different approaches of learning new things.

As in learning forex, the fastest way to learn is by attending a mentoring session, which normally takes 2 days, because this is the time when you can learn the BASICS and interact with an experienced trader. Be willing to spend some MONEY in your quest in acquiring KNOWLEDGE because KNOWLEDGE is POWER.

Unfortunately, programs like these are rarely organized in Sabah and are normally available in West Malaysia. So whenever one is held here, take the opportunity to attend. Normally the FEE for such a program costs around RM500 and may even exceed RM1,000 which I feel is too costly. I think RM500 is quite a fair price.

Pertaining to the above, you might want to know that we also have a Sabahan who conducts FREE seminars and MENTORING programs locally. Before I met him I called him Donny but after some time I just referred him to as Don. This is our local 'sifu' or 'taiko' when it comes to trading. :). I also want to add that his charges are very WALLET FRIENDLY so don't miss his PROGRAMS.

Kimbo Vs Ken Shamrock Fight 'Switched'

I was shocked and disappointed with the unprecedented announcement that Ken Shamrock had to forfeit the fight due to a training injury (cut above Ken's eye that required 6 stitches) caused a day before the fight. The Florida State Athletic Commission officials denied the scheduled bout and reasoned that the rules did not permit.

However, it was not a complete let down as a new contender has been summoned. Seth (The Silverback) Petruzelli was the choice fighter to take on Kimbo Slice. Seth has a fight record of 10 wins and 4 losses with 7 ko's. Specializing in full contact Karate, Seth is said to be a more worthy fighter for Kimbo though not much info is found on the internet ultimately downsizing this contender as a 'no name' in MMA.

If so happens that the original bout went as planned, I would have to stick with my opinion that Shamrock will not be the one to win the fight given his previous dismal fight performances and age factor. Ken Shamrock would have been owned by Kimbo no doubt.

It was a huge upset for Kimbo fans on fight night (4/10/08) when Seth knocked the media-hyped street fighter legend in just 14 seconds. Seth has every reason to be thrilled for his victory! I didn't expect to see the fight end that fast but nonetheless I got my wish in seeing Kimbo lose in a professional fight.

At the onset, Kimbo immediately went into offensive and lunged with a forward left jab which Seth evaded. Seth's defensive took him to the cage where Kimbo then decided to pull a right upper cut which failed half way in execution after something that Seth did made him lose balance and fell face down. Seth wasted no time to land several hard strikes to Kimbo's head and face. Kimbo literally had no time to keep his guard and eventually the fight was stopped by the referee.

It was an exciting day! I woke up at 5.30am to catch the Hari Raya prayer in Kg. Brunei, Membakut. From my home, it is an estimated 1 hour drive at a driving speed of 70km/h. My wife and I did not plan to stay overnight so we didn't bring many things.

At 7.20am, the kampung mosque was already packed and I was one of the many who had to pray on the ground outside. I met my former secondary schoolmate there and made talk.

Normally after prayers we would visit the cemetery located near Bongawan's Golf Club. This year I took a ride on a Vigo, seated at the carriage space with 5 of my first cousins. It's cool traveling this way, if for a short distance. :) . We had to stop for fuel before we continued. I took some shots but as we approached our destination my camera ran out of power. It was very disappointing ...

Back in Kg.Brunei, I managed 4 house visits and went in a group. All are immediate families' homes and are walking distances from one another. We nibble some food here and some more in another and in the end our stomachs were almost full. After that, it is my turn to visit my wife's family place instead. Everything concluded at 4.30pm and it's time to head home.

Amid all the activities, my wife had bought a few fireworks to light at home. She had been talking about wanting to buy them since the early fasting days. Finally, when she, Jason and I reached home we made off with the fireworks she bought and the ones that have been in possession for years. We even experimented with its lights and shaped something out in the dark.

HARI RAYA is always a fun time to be coz it's where families gather, reconcile and get the celebratory FEEL. It is also a time when EXTRA WEIGHT is achieved, which is the BAD SIDE of RAYA. :)

Bollinger Bands Defined

Developed by John Bollinger, Bollinger bands are one of the most popular, flexible and easy to use technical indicators around. Here we will look at the logic behind them and how to use the to enjoy greater forex profits.

Bollinger bands are simply, volatility bands one each side of a simple moving average.

Bollinger bands are calculated using the standard deviation of price over the same period as moving averages and plotted on either side of the moving average. Moving averages are used to identify the underlying trend and Bollinger bands combine this with the ability to see the volatility of the individual currency as a trading envelope.

The distance between upper and lower Bollinger bands reflects the standard deviation of price (volatility) of the currency traded.

As prices become more volatile the outer bands move further away from the longer-term average, as volatility decreases they are of course closer to the moving average.

Why there so Useful

In any market, the value of it tends to rise slowly overtime but price spikes occur from time to time and these are normally a reflection of the greed or fear of the participants.

Short term price spikes never last for long and prices eventually come back to more realistic levels ( in the case of the Bollinger band) this is the moving average. The volatility of the outer bands therefore tells us how volatile prices are - and how far away prices have moved from fair value.

Bollinger bands can be used in the following way

1. Catching New Trends

When a market is in consolidation it tends to exhibit low volatility, when it trends, on the other hand, higher volatility is normally present.

When Bollinger bands are narrow, this shows a market with low volatility however low volatility in currencies never lasts for long and traders can be on alert for a breakout and new trend.

Trader should look for prices to break out of the outer bands in either direction to indicate a potential new trend.

2. Timing Your Trading Signal

If you want to get in on an existing trend the Bollinger Band can help you determine the best area to execute your trading signal in terms of risk to reward.

In a strong trend prices will tend to dip to the centre band or fair value and this is the place to execute your trading signal.

Look at any strong trending currency and you will see how effective this simple strategy is.

3. Spotting Market Tops and Bottoms

When top of the band is hit, you can sell, prices should revert back to the moving average. If the price touches the bottom of the band, they look again for prices to revert back to the average.

DO NOT USE IN ISOLATION!

Bollinger bands are a volatility indicator - they should NOT be used in isolation to enter trading signals.
When using Bollinger bands they should be combined with support and resistance lines on your forex charts and ideally, before entering a position, you should use momentum oscillators, to confirm your move. An ideal one is the stochastic ( although there are many more), if you confirm each set up, you will get the odds on your side and that means big long term profits.

Bollinger Bands are a great tool and if you want to trade more profitably, make Bollinger bands part of your forex education.
